Their mandate is to oversee Intelligence and Security affairs within the German Empire. They are the main intelligence body of the Empire and ensure stability in the state and across the nation as a whole. This includes protection from political opponents to terrorists.
The American Bureau of Investigation has the authority to investigate all crimes against the Protectorate and pursue prosecution. Furthermore, its actions are not subject to judicial review by the civil courts, and its agents are immune from all lawsuits arising from their official conduct. This protection only applies if the unlawfulness of such conduct had not been previously established by the courts.

The American Bureau of Investigation (ABI) may require, of any citizen of the Protectorate, full cooperation with any pending investigation and may employ Questioning Orders for this purpose, which when refused constitutes a crime.
